The beginning of my cruelty free journey.

Monday, 28 August 2017
For a few months now I've been following a blog by Beth who blogs all about cruelty-free beauty. Reading Beth's blog has taught me a few things. Firstly, testing on animals isn't just giving them a bubble bath or a lipstick swatch, these animals are tortured until they inevitably die. Secondly, not all cruelty-free brands are going to skint you, from product reviews to mini hauls Beth has such a huge selection on her blog as well as a list of cruelty-free brands - I wasn't expecting to see even half of my drugstore faves on there but there's so many!. Lastly is that you don't have to put so much pressure on yourself to do this, I always assumed it'd be all or nothing. I've read plenty of posts from Beth about how she became a vegan and a completely cruelty-free blogger, she did it in step and I'm willing to take my first step!.

Why I'm doing this.

I don't think I ever really realised how bad animal testing is and this is my own fault for not researching and opening my eyes a little but now that I have taken the time to research I know how terrible it is and personally I don't want to buy the products and essentially pay these brands to test on these poor animals.

Secondly, after all my research I've found out that there are so, so many brands that are cruelty-free so there must be an alternative to this the main reason for the  brands testing on animals seems to be selling in China, where they by law have to test so it's all to do with the extra money mainly which is why I won't give my money to these brands.

I know that just one person may not make a difference but I'm willing to do this, even if a brand only loses £1 because of my refusal it's something. I want to show more cruelty-free products on my blog, to raise awareness, I also want to prove that you can have nice products with a nice price tag that are ethical - you most likely already own some. win, win.

My first step

My first step is involving makeup that I already have, I want to understand what in my collection is cruelty-free and what isn't so I'm doing lots of searching for the brands I keep at the minute. Over the next few weeks I'll be replacing a couple of products at a time, I can't replace everything all at once bc I'm skint & I can't just get rid of it all without replacements because of how minimal my make up collection is for example; I only have 1 mascara, 1 eyeliner. I'll be doing a full post at the end of the month of my swapsies for anyone who is interested.

Have you gone cruelty-free?, What are your views on the subject?.
