How to fill your make-up bag for under £30 - Autumn Edition

Thursday, 25 October 2018

I've been so excited to write this post since I thought of it, I feel like it's getting to the time of year where everyone is a little shorter on money; people starting back at University, hours dropping in seasonal towns/jobs and people saving for Christmas etc so being the frugal, bargain hunter I am, I've decided to plan for each season a 'Fill your makeup bag for £30' for anyone who needs a top up but doesn't have a huge budget. Lets face it just one foundation from Benefit, Too Faced or Urban Decay would set you back 90% of this budget and whilst high-end makeup is on another level in terms of quality, personally I just can't afford it and I have at times brought drugstore products that have more than lived up to high-end quality but for half the price tag, so I'm sticking to the drugstore for this post. I'm going to fill the imaginary 'make-up bag' with things I'd personally only use daily to make this a little easier,. So I'm giving myself £30 and I'm going to try my hardest to stay within this budget.

BUDGET - £30

Foundation -  CYO no shine zone matte foundation £6

So starting off with Foundation, I honestly think this is where most of the budget will be blown but this is going to be our 'canvas' so we want it to be sturdy and we don't want it to just melt off our face come an hour later. So I've gone for the CYO matte foundation which is £6, I love a matte foundation for autumn personally. The coverage is good and it's surprisingly quite good for oily skin, the only downside of this one is there aren't really many shades.

BUDGET - £24

Concealer - Makeup revolution cover and define concealer £4

On to concealer, my absolute favourite concealer is from the drugstore (Superdrug to be specific), it's the Make-up revolution conceal and define concealer. This concealer covers well, it's a good dupe for the Tarte shapewear concealer, it lasts well and only £4. It's literally my go to. The only thing is it gets used pretty quick because of the size of the doufer applicator.

BUDGET - £20

Setting powder - MUA loose setting powder £4.

I really wanted to include the revolution setting power here because I have been loving that stuff but it's £8 (that's nearly half our budget). So I'm going for the MUA loose setting powder.  This setting powder is a BARG. I've chosen the original setting powder but they also have some colour correcting ones for the same price if they're more up your cuppa tea.

BUDGET - £16

Contour, Highlight and blush - Makeup Revolution £3.50

I'm gonna be cheeky here and join the next three together for the grand total of £3.50 before I just go into the overdraft of our budget with the Make-up revolution blush contour and highlight kit. These little kits are such a bargain and they're actually really good quality for the price!. The highlight in this kit is so pretty as well. I'm not going to buy an eyeshadow here purely because there wasn't enough money and I'm being strict with the budget, but you could always use the contour shade in this as well as the highlight to create a natural, pretty eye look.

BUDGET - £12.50

Eyeliner - MUA eye define felt liner £2

This is another firm favourite of mine, it's the MUA eye define felt liner. I use this daily and I always repurchase it, I personally prefer a felt liner because I just don't have a steady enough hand for a standard liquid liner and my eye also twitches quite a lot during application where it doesn't tend to do it with the felts. I've had mine for a good few months and it hasn't dried up yet which is fab!.

BUDGET - £10.50

Mascara - Barry M feature-length mascara £4.50

This could be a tricky one because all my fave mascaras are £10 + but we only have £10.50 so they're out the window, I'm going to do some review searching and see what I can find that isn’t going to break our budget (fingers crossed). Okay, so I've come to the conclusion that the Barry m feature legnth mascara is the best way to go, the reviews are looking good and although it takes a big chunk of £4.50 out of our remaining £10 it's still such a bargain.

BUDGET - £6

Brows - Revolution brow kit £2.50

Only £6 to go and we still have bits to get!, I'm going to put brows and lippy first (we may have to miss out on the eyeshadow, although if you wanna spare an extra £4 there's a gorgeous autumnal one here). So for brows I'm going back to the trusty Revolution for  little eyebrow quad for £2.50, I actually have the MUA version of this myself and it honestly has everything you could possibly need. This still leaves us with a tiny budget for our lippy!.

BUDGET - £3.50

Lippy -  MUA / REVOLUTION £1 (£2 in total)

So now we're nearly done and I'm going to use my last £3.50 to get a lippy. I really wanted the soph 'cake' to go here but I'm 50p off that (I know right) although if you do wanna splurge the extra 50p it's 100% worth it. So I'm going to go for a couple of the revolution/ MUA lippies here £1 each and they have so many shades as well (BARG). So the most 'Autumnal' shades I can find here are the MUA LIPSTICK 'Shade 2' and I'm also going to go for the Revolution amazing lipstick in Lady and Voila!.

BUDGET - £1.50

So we still have a lil bit of our budget left if you wanted to treat yourself to another lippy but I'm actually so happy with our little makeup bag here, to think high-end wise one thing would set you back half this budget, thank god for the drugstore!.

Mini Autumn wishlist

Thursday, 11 October 2018

I'm sure we've all established by now that it's autumn and with that comes a hella load of autumn blog posts... sorry autumn haters (as if there is any, right?). I've seen so many autumn goodies that I'm trying to avoid splurging on so I thought I'd share a couple of my faves here. Anyway, let's see how long that no spending lasts... spoiler alert, not very.

The body shop's hand cream in vanilla pumpkin | £5

First off there's The Body Shop hand cream in vanilla pumpkin. I absolutely love the body shop handcreams they're non-greasy, they all smell amazing and they do hydrate really well (I have eczema and they're my go to). The packaging is usually quite cute anyway but oh my god can we talk about this 'day of the dead' inspired packaging or 'Dia de Los Muertos' if ya feeling fancy, it's just stunning. This scent was one of my favourites from last year it's just super cosy and comforting and if they had this in candle form I'd have brought 20 by now.

Yankee candle's sweet orange spiced candle| Yankee | £8.99 here.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have an unhealthy obsession for candles (if they really know me they'll know I have a separate storage basket under the best dedicated to unused candles). This one only a lil candle but as this is a wishlist lets just go all out and say I'd happily buy the large jar if I could. Can I just say, I absolutely love the new packaging on some of these candles, you've done a good job Yankee, it's literally so pretty. They describe this candle as "A gathering of harvest scents - cinnamon, clove, ginger and pumpkin - that's refreshing and warm".. someone actually takes my bank card off me, thanks.

Tkmaxx White light up floral skull | TkMaxx | £9.99 currently £5 on offer here.

Whenever I'm after homeware Tkmaxx is always my go too, I've seen so many beautifully decorated houses for autumn and I've been lusting over a few little bits for Halloween etc for the flat and to use in the backgrounds of pictures. I saw this really pretty skull in the store which I thought would look lovely on my book stand, it's very Dia de Los Muertos inspired again and I just bluddy love it and did I mention it lights up?.

Red 'day of the dead' fruit bowl | TkMaxx |  £5.99 currently £4 on offer here.

Sticking with TkMaxx and the theme of 'Dia de Los Muertos' I found this adorable lil fruit bowl, it's bright and super pretty. I thought this would make the cutest trick or treat bowl, although as I live 3 stories up I don't really get trick or treaters (don't blame you all hate that many stairs on the best of days) It's also made of bamboo so it's gentle on the planet.

Too Faced latex lipsticks 7ml | TkMaxx | £5.99 here

Oh my gosh Tkmax, you've truly outdone yourself here, too faced lippies for under £10?, who even knew Tkmaxx sold make-up because I didn't and if you're a newbie to this one too go check it out because my gosh there's  perfumes with lie £100 knocked off their retail price and you can pick up benefit, too faced and Becca goodies for a fraction of the RRP. Anyway enough of the fangirling, I thought these lippies would be really good for Halloween, they have a few colours such as 'Bye Felica' and 'Can't touch this' that I think would work perfectly with Halloween costumes.

From my list, I'm sure we've all established that I'm never just going to be able to walk past TkMaxx without drooling over the make-up and that my spending ban has in fact already been broken whoops.

What's on your Autumn Wishlist?.

What's in my Autumn make-up bag

Thursday, 4 October 2018

I bloody love autumn (as you've all probably guessed by now) also although Strictly speaking, I don't have a make-up bag unless I'm travelling, I generally sore all my make-up in a little wicker basket (you can find it here), I'm having a lil sort out of my make-up in the transition into Autumn and a few favourites have re-surfaced so I thought I'd share them with you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIPSTICKS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Soph x lipstick - Cake

This lipstick is one of my absolute faves. It's the perfect nude shade for me and I feel like it goes with so many different make-up looks, if you set this it lasts really well but sometimes if I don't use my setting spray then it will only last a few hours but for only £4 it's a bargain really.

Sleek matte lipsticks - Rijoa red & Old Hollywood

I'm going to be doing a few brown based eye looks through the winter and these shades just work so well against gold and bronzey shades.

Tanya burr's lipgloss in cranberry melt

I don't know if this is still available (and yes i know my packaging is completely worn out) but I want to mention it anyway. I got this in an advent calendar last year. I like a gloss in the winter because I feel they’re a little more hydrating but I literally hate the feel of your standard gloss but this feels so lovely on your lips rather than “sticky”.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Highlighters

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Revolution vivid naked highlighter - golden lights

I got this highlighter a few weeks ago and I bloody love it. It’s amazing pigment it's not “chunky” and it has the most gorgeous golden sheen to it, for only £4 it was such a bargain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EYESHADOW

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I 🖤  Revolution palette in rose gold

Oh my god, this is the tiny palette of dreamsss, it’s perfect for travelling because of its size (it's no bigger than my phone) and it has the perfect shades for autumn ( 6 matters and 2 shimmers). The pigment is really good and the shadows are a really good quality for just a couple of pounds, there are a few different combinations you could create with matte or shimmer, all in all, it’s a great little palette.

The original Naked palette

My god, I love a good naked palette, there are 12 shades 2 matters and 10 shimmers / pearlescent shades. There are so many gorgeous shades in here. For autumn I’m thinking this is going to be bloody perfect for bronzer looks as well as smokey ones. As usual, with urban decay the pigment in amazing   You get a little fallout with a couple of shades but for me, that’s one of the only downsides with this palette because it’s brilliant otherwise.
