Why is self care important? -

Our daily lives revolve around busy schedules; work, socialising, rushing, social media and general hustling. In my personal life and I'm sure you can relate - self care is barely on the list of things I need to do in my daily life, when in reality it should be top of that list. After a hard day I decided I needed a break, I grabbed a magazine and took some time out and it really made me reflect on the fact that I don't take enough time for me and if you're the same, I've got some life changing 'hacks' for you that'll help you fit self care into your busy schedule.

So I think here, the first thing to address I think is the most important and that is are you doing too much?. Personally I work about 50 hours a week which for me personally is quite a bit and sometimes I do feel like it is a bit much some people could hack that amount easily and others may wince at the thought of it so every answer will be different here. This brings me on to your first hack

Learning when to say ~No!~.

This was actually one of my New Years Resolutions and I haven't stuck to it all that well, I'm a people pleaser - there's no denying it. I don't like to annoy people (especially when it comes to managers) which results in me working every single hour possible and never having a day off because I feel guilty for saying no. I do think this is one of those where you have to just stand your ground and say no, I am taking this time to myself because I deserve too (Like a queen) and just not feel guilty from doing that because you do deserve time out. I do however understand that this isn't always easy and there's always pressure for some people and what you have to remember is you can't allow other people to 'rule' your life, make your own choices.

"You can be a good person, with a kind heart and still say no"

Lets talk hobbies.

You're likely rolling your eyes thinking 'Charlie, I barely have time as it is why am I taking up a hobby?' But.. hear me out. For me personally, I spend a lot of time scrolling roughly 4 hours a day (which is so bad). Dedicating your time to things that you genuinely enjoy that relax you personally, I'm thinking of taking up jewellery making when I have more time but for now I have my blog which is enough for me. Whatever hobby you pick though, be sure it sparks joy in you.

Bite size goals

I think the key to all of this is to take it easy, your self care shouldn't feel like a burden. Self care is all about feeling content and happy within ourselves and you have to admit, hitting your goals feels pretty good. Instead of trying to cram everything in on your day off and inevitably just feeling like you haven't rested at all, chopping these goals down makes the self care much less overwhelming. For example; Reading a couple of pages of a book per day rather than sitting down and finishing the whole book in a couple of hours. All of this may seem logical but it's surprising how much more you'll fit in using this technique rather than bulking everything into one day. Another great example of this is taking 5 minutes out of the day in peace rather than only using your day off for a break or texting a friend.
"Put yourself at the top of your to-do list everyday and everything else will fall into place".

I hope this post inspires you to look at your own self care routine or helps you to put yourself first a little more. I honestly hope that by making your own choices, saying no more and fitting in self care and things you enjoy you spark a joy within yourself and remember that you're important and your needs matter more than your average busy day.

"Give yourself the same level of care you give to other people and watch yourself bloom".
